The Sherman High Tennis Team opened the fall season playing Greenville on Thursday morning, 8/13, and then Sulphur Springs in the afternoon at the Sherman High courts. Sherman won the morning match 12-7, with Gavin Cole, Adam Mayer, Mason Taylor, Joseph Guedea, Chris Peine, Russell Hill, and Avery Kahl picking up wins on the boys side, and Marie VanSant, Zayla Pope and Kaitlyn Ryan won for the Lady Bearcats.
The Bearcats also won the afternoon match against Sulphur Springs 15-3. Those earning wins for the Lady Bearcats were Marie VanSant, Kaitlyn Ryan, Carly Weaver, Karla Sosa, Olivia Brown, Madilyn Roberts, and Kaitlin Catellier. Bearcat men winners were Gavin Cole, Adam Maher, Mason Taylor, Joselph Gluedea, Chris Peine, Russell SHill and Avery Kahl.
On Friday morning, 8/14, the Cats traveled to Frisco and lost 18-1 to a strong Frisco High team. Mason Taylor was the sole winner for the Bearcats. Then in the afternoon match, the Cats lost to Frisco Independence High by the score of 15-4 with Russell Hill, Mason Taylor, Avery Kahl, and Joseph Guedea picking up wins as well as Hill and Taylor winning their doubles match.
On Saturday morning the Cats played 6A J. Frank Dobie High from Houston at Duncanville High and came up one match short, losing a hard fought contest 10-9. Picking up wins for the Bearcats were Joseph Guedea, Avery Kahl, Adam Maher, Gavin Cole, Russell Hill, Chris Peine, Madilyn Roberts and Kaitlyn Ryan. Madilyn Roberts picked up wins in both doubles and singles matches. “Playing highly ranked teams from Frisco and Houston will pay off for us once district play gets here” Coach Pilcher said.
