A walk-off left Sherman Bearcats Varsity on the wrong end of a 6-4 defeat to Denison on Tuesday. The game was tied at four with Denison batting in the bottom of the seventh when Elizabeth Linwood homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Denison got things started in the first inning when Hannah Grinspan’s sac fly scored one run for Denison.
In the top of the sixth inning, Sherman Bearcats Varsity tied things up at four. Jessica Shrum singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
Ashlinn Hamilton was the winning pitcher for Denison. She surrendered four runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Jessica Bridges took the loss for Sherman Bearcats Varsity. She went six and a third innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking zero.
Sherman Bearcats Varsity scattered seven hits in the game. Shrum, Emma Jones, and Bridges each had multiple hits for Sherman Bearcats Varsity. Bridges, Jones, and Shrum each collected two hits to lead Sherman Bearcats Varsity.
Denison tallied nine hits on the day. Hamilton and Linwood all managed multiple hits for Denison. Hamilton went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Denison in hits.
